Definition of compassionMerriam-Webster Dictionary

sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it
Why did I start with the definition of Compassion?  I wanted you to begin thinking on such a tender word, because not many of us truly understand it to the depths of its meaning and that it completely gives a true characteristic identity of that of our Lord and Saviour.  Jesus was full of compassion.  He said its not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick...

Mark 2:17 New International Version (NIV)

17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
What did He mean by that we were born sinners therefore, we all need a Saviour, but some find our way to Jesus without little prompting, some need a little push...some he pursues.

God's desire that no man shall parish.

2 Peter 3:9 New International Version (NIV)

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
God is a loving Father, He looks after His children and gives them every opportunity to seek after Him, to chose Him.  He knows our struggles and that is why is he so patient and gentle and kind.  He sent his own son to earth; "the word became flesh" to lead us back to Him.  Jesus embody compassion.  He was gentle in spirit and kind to the sinners who did not know Him.  He took the time to share with Him the glory of the Father.  He told us in His word that if you have seen me then you have seen the father.  He said that I do what my Father does.

So when we see Jesus showing compassion for the sick, the hurting, the lost, the truly repented and the ones who have true faith in him, that is the impedimy of compassion.  God loves his children. God desires us to be Christ like in every area of our lives too.  We are to love on others just like he has loved on us.  We, as believers, are not to be impatient, mean, rude, disrespectful, of others, that is the exact opposite of what a believers characteristic should be.
That is why it is important to study the word.  Get to know our God through the stories in the bible in the Old and New Testaments.  You will begin to see God in all circumstances and discover what true compassionate and unconditional love is and how to give it.
Take a journey through the Old Testament and seen compassion and unconditional love in its rarest form.  God LOVES Israel.  No matter what Israel did / does all the times she left God and ran around with other gods, God accepted her back with forgiveness, patience and COMPASSION.  God went out of His way many times to bring her back in alignment with Him..this went on and on and on in the bible.  Yes, He got upset...yes He allowed some things to happen but He always provided a way out.  Just like He does with us, because he loves us and has compassion for us.  It is no different with our own children. No matter what our kids do or say, we may not agree with their decisions and yes, we will get upset with them, but we have compassion when they mess up and are hurting and no matter what, we love them unconditionally.
We are extremely blessed to have a heavenly Father who is full of forgiveness and compassion for us.  We were extremely blessed to be able to see how real compassion is played out in real life (Jesus) and how it should play out in our lives today.
It is no different from then to today.  Compassion is compassion no matter the season we are in.  Be gentle, be kind to all. Show compassion for we do not know what someone could be going through and your compassion / kindness maybe the very thing that saves a persons' life.
Compassion is not overrated, in fact is underrated, under used these days.  We need to be intentional in how we respond to others.  It matters not how someone treats you, you, as a child of God, should not be living and acting like a non believer, if you do, you just lost your witness card.

Matthew 28:16-20 New International Version (NIV)

The Great Commision

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We are in the world not of the world and we are here on the great commission to make disciples for the Kingdom not hell.

John 17:16 New International Version (NIV)

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
Read a good commentary of the scripture, very good

So, also keep your heart in check, keep you words, thoughts, attitudes in check, for you really do not know who is watching you.
If you wear the title of a believer, let the redeemer of the Lord say so and be mindful of the characteristics you are developing.
Now, go and win some souls for the Kingdom.

In Jesus name
